Mumbai – Superstar Aamir Khan, known for his hit movies like “3 Idiots” and “Dangal” in China, shared his thoughts about cooperation between Indian and Chinese filmmakers at the WAVES summit. He spoke during a session titled ‘Indian Cinema, Oriental Look’ along with famous Hong Kong directors such as Peter Ho Sun Chan and Stanley Tong.
Aamir highlighted the similarities between Indian and Chinese audiences. “I’ve seen my movies in China, and the reactions were just like in India,” he said, praising the emotional connections people share in both cultures. He believes that working together creatively can create great opportunities for both nations.
He emphasized the importance of authentic stories over just market trends. “It has to be about a story or script that excites us. It shouldn’t just be about making an action movie with stars from both countries,” he explained.
Producer Prasad Shetty agreed, saying that Indian filmmakers should focus on real stories that reflect Indian culture to appeal to Chinese audiences. He noted that both cultures share similar emotions and values.
Sun Chan and Tong also expressed their love for Indian culture. Sun Chan mentioned his fond memories of Indian food and films, while Tong shared his interest in Indian family values and culture.
