Just days after President Donald Trump spoke with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth about using the messaging app Signal to talk about military actions, he’s in trouble again. This time, it’s for joining another Signal group chat with former Fox News producers.
This new chat had Hegseth’s wife, Jennifer Rauchet, who used to work at Fox News, along with his senior adviser Sean Parnell and Tami Radabaugh, another ex-Fox producer and Hegseth’s deputy assistant in public affairs. Reports say it’s uncertain what they talked about in this chat, and it’s unclear if the group is still active.
The Pentagon is worried because Signal is known to be hackable, and they advise against using it to discuss even non-secret matters. Radabaugh was not publicly mentioned during the earlier issues with Hegseth’s Signal chats, adding more mystery to her role.
Despite not having a formal job at the Pentagon, Rauchet seems to have a big influence on Hegseth. She’s involved in decisions about his media appearances and even requests that Department of Defense (DOD) staff gather his initial comments for reporters and social media. Sources say that she often suggests what videos he should make and how to manage the press.
