Minal Khan, a woman from Pakistan who married an Indian soldier, was about to be sent back to her home country, but the Jammu and Kashmir High Court saved her at the last moment. Minal, who married Munir Khan online, planned to leave Jammu for the Attari border when her lawyer told her the good news.
Minal’s husband, Munir Ahmed, works as a constable in the CRPF, and they got married 2.5 months ago. Minal came to India on a visiting visa and later asked for a long-term visa to stay. Her lawyer, Ankush Sharma, said Minal attended her interview for the long-term visa, and things looked good since the Ministry of Home Affairs received positive recommendations for her application.
After the terrible attack in Pahalgam, many Pakistani nationals had their visas revoked, which affected Minal. She was ordered to leave India and sent to the Attari border. Her lawyer filed a case in the High Court, which resulted in an interim order that allowed her to stay. Minal returned to Jammu around 3 AM the day before.
Earlier, Minal had asked the Indian government to let families remain together, expressing sadness over the Pahalgam attack. She condemned the violence and called for punishment for those responsible.
Since the terror attack in Pahalgam, 786 Pakistani nationals, including 55 diplomats and their families, have left India due to a government order. A total of 1,465 Indians and 151 Pakistani citizens with long-term visas have returned to India from Pakistan since April 24. Indian Home Minister Amit Shah has asked all state leaders to ensure that no Pakistani nationals remain in India beyond the given deadline.
