Prime Minister Narendra Modi will kick off the first-ever World Audio Visual and Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in Mumbai on Thursday, May 1. This exciting four-day event will gather everyone from the media and entertainment industry under one roof. Both the central and state governments are helping organize this gathering, which will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Bandra Kurla Complex.
WAVES is designed to be a lively space where traditional and modern media can connect. The Prime Minister plans to spend nearly 10 hours there, discussing big ideas with top CEOs and leaders from the industry. He will also meet young creators from around the world who participated in 31 ‘Create in India’ challenges, giving out awards personally to the winners.
The “Creatorsphere” will be a fun area filled with creative activities. It will have zones for virtual reality (VR), animation, films, gaming, visual effects (VFX), comics, music, and more. There will also be masterclasses for those who want to learn more and get hands-on experience.
Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw will also speak at the event’s kickoff, which will include many famous actors like Aamir Khan, Chiranjeevi, Anil Kapoor, Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Hema Malini, and others.
The summit’s opening will feature a fantastic musical performance by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani and a 30-member orchestra. There will also be a special tribute to India’s storytelling history, narrated by the actor Sharad Kelkar.
Adding to the excitement, Modi will unveil the Bharat Pavilion, which celebrates India’s storytelling journey, themed ‘Kala to Code’. This pavilion will offer visitors a chance to explore the rich history and future of India’s media and entertainment.
Throughout the summit, there will be important discussions about the future of audio-visual content in India and around the world. The first day will end with an exciting evening of performances by talented musicians like Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Yella Venkateswara Rao, and Shreya Ghoshal.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will host the Global Media Dialogue, which will gather important figures from the media around the world. Winners of the ‘Create in India’ challenges will receive the first-ever WAVES Awards during this event.
On Day 1, one of the main discussions will be ‘Legends and Legacies: The Stories That Shaped India’s Soul’ featuring big names like Hema Malini and Rajinikanth, moderated by actor Akshay Kumar. Another interesting discussion titled ‘The New Mainstream: Breaking Borders, Building Legends’ will have filmmaker SS Rajamouli, actors Anil Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, along with AR Rahman, moderated by Karan Johar.
There will also be a special conversation with Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone, discussing their rise to fame.
Key topics will include managing broadcasting in the digital world, copyright issues for content creators, and the impact of artificial intelligence on media.
