India and US Address Pahalgam Terror Attack: Seeking Justice Now

On Thursday, Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar talked about the recent terror attack in Pahalgam with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. Jaishankar said it is important to bring to justice everyone involved in the attack. He shared this update on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The Pahalgam attack was very tragic, taking the lives of 26 people, mostly tourists. Upon discussing the matter, Rubio expressed sadness over this horrific event and reaffirmed the USA’s support to work with India in fighting terrorism. He also encouraged India to talk with Pakistan to reduce tensions and promote peace in South Asia.

In response to the rising violence from Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, India has taken several steps, including stopping the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Integrated Check Post at Attari, and reducing the number of staff at High Commissions. Indian armed forces have now been given full freedom to respond to the attack.

The Indian Army has already reacted strongly to unprovoked attacks from Pakistan. Recently, the Pakistani Army fired small arms across the LoC, and the Indian Army responded effectively. There have been more operations to fight against terrorism in the Kashmir Valley since the Pahalgam attack. After a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, it was noted that the attack has connections beyond India, especially following successful elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
