Visakhapatnam: YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, the leader of YSRCP, said that the government’s carelessness caused a sad accident when a wall fell down at the Simhachalam Temple, killing seven people. He asked for ₹1 crore (10 million) for each family of the victims. This tragedy happened early in the morning when the wall, soaked from the rain, collapsed at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Temple. Reddy insisted that strict actions should be taken against those responsible for the disaster and that families of the deceased should receive the same compensation paid for a previous gas leak accident in 2020.
The Chief Minister, N Chandrababu Naidu, has announced ₹25 lakh (2.5 million) for each family of the deceased and ₹3 lakh (300,000) for the injured people. After meeting the grieving families, Reddy claimed that the collapsed wall was built incorrectly. He said it started just six days before the incident and was finished just two days prior. He also mentioned that despite heavy rain, people were still asked to line up near the ten-foot-high wall, showing the government’s negligence.
Reddy pointed out that the Chandanotsavam festival draws thousands of visitors each year, yet the government failed to provide proper safety measures. He compared this event to past unfortunate occurrences, claiming that such incidents happen under the current government led by Naidu. He reminded everyone of the tragedy during the Godavari Pushkaralu pilgrimage in the previous administration, highlighting a pattern of disasters due to negligence.
Recently, he also noted several cows died in a local goshala, and important tortoises at Srikurmam died as well. Reddy criticized Naidu for forming committees to investigate such issues but claimed nothing ever comes of these reports. This includes previous issues around the famous Tirupati laddu.
