Zia Ur Rehman Barq Questioned on Sambhal Mosque Violence: Aiming to Clear His Name

Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq was questioned by police on Tuesday about a violent incident that happened last year in Sambhal during a court-approved survey of a mosque. He arrived at the Nakhasa police station around 11:30 am, accompanied by more than ten lawyers, to give his statement to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) looking into the case.

Before going to the police station, he told reporters at his home in Deepa Sarai that even though he is not feeling well and his doctors advised him to rest, he wants to help the police and avoid any negative media attention. “I came today so everyone knows I’m not trying to escape the investigation,” he said. He also claimed that the case against him is unfounded and that he aims to clear his name.

The violence occurred on November 24 last year in the Kot Garvi area of Sambhal when people were surveying the Mughal-era Jama Masjid. This incident resulted in the deaths of four people due to gunfire, and many others were injured.
