In a rare public moment, actor and environmentalist Leonardo DiCaprio was seen cleaning up plastic from the ocean for an upcoming documentary. However, not everyone was happy about it. Many people on the internet pointed out that he often uses a private jet, which contradicts his green image.
Leonardo was recently seen off the coast of Formentera, Spain, where he joined children in collecting plastic waste as part of a documentary focusing on Posidonia oceanica, an endangered type of seagrass important for the Mediterranean Sea.
Photos shared online showed him diving into the water, talking to the documentary crew, and interacting with the kids as they collected trash. While fans praised his efforts, others criticized him for his carbon footprint from taking private jets. Comments like, “Did he fly in on his private jet?” and “What about his yacht?” filled social media.
Some users felt it was hypocritical for him to collect plastic after traveling by private jet. A few people supported him, saying things like, “He’s doing great work,” while others applauded his heart for the ocean.
Earlier this year, Leonardo faced backlash for taking a private jet to escape the wildfires in Los Angeles. Although he was criticized for this decision, he later donated $1 million to help the recovery efforts in his community.
