The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), the main opposition party in Telangana, has strongly criticized Chief Minister Revanth Reddy’s government. They are upset because the state is facing a huge financial problem, with a ₹71,000 crore revenue shortfall. Senior BRS leader KT Rama Rao (KTR) questions the wisdom of the Congress government in spending a lot of money on events like the Formula-E race and the Miss World Pageant, while the state struggles to meet basic needs.

KTR pointed out that the Congress government has dedicated ₹200 crore for the Miss World pageant and ₹46 crore for the Formula-E race. He highlighted that this spending is surprising, especially when the state has a deficit of ₹71,000 crore, which is hindering their ability to pay salaries and fund development projects. KTR took to social media, expressing skepticism about the government’s claims that everything is fine in Telangana, saying it’s hard to believe when farmers are in trouble.

In assembly sessions, BRS lawmakers protested by bringing dried crops to showcase their concerns about what they called “Congress-made drought.” They suggested that the money for the beauty contest should be used to support farmers, proposing ₹25,000 per acre to help those suffering.

The BRS has been criticizing the Congress government for mismanaging funds, claiming they wasted money on promises made during the 2023 elections. In response, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy blamed his predecessor, K Chandrasekhar Rao, for putting the state in debt. Reddy stated that the previous government left massive public debt, requiring high monthly interest payments.

On another note, during the assembly, Telangana’s Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Bhatti Vikramarka presented the 2025-26 state budget, focusing on technology, transportation, infrastructure, and environmental protection. The new budget outlines a total expenditure of ₹3,04,965 crore, including ₹2,26,982 crore for revenue and ₹36,504 crore for capital projects.
