Michael Clarke, a famous former cricket player from Australia, supports the decision of the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to ban England cricketer Harry Brook from the IPL (Indian Premier League) for two whole seasons. Harry Brook, who was bought by the Delhi Capitals for ₹6.25 crore during the IPL mega-auction for 2025, recently said he wouldn’t play in the tournament. This is the second time in a row that Brook has decided not to participate after being purchased by a team. Last year, just before the IPL started, he withdrew to be with his family after his grandmother passed away.

Clarke believes that the BCCI is right to take a strong stance against players who pull out of the IPL. He pointed out that sometimes players don’t feel happy with their auction price and choose to withdraw. Clarke thinks this puts the integrity of the league at risk.

“It’s important to understand that if you get picked in the auction, you need to respect that commitment,” Clarke said on the Beyond23 Cricket Podcast. He acknowledges that many players want to earn more money, but once you sign a contract, you should stick to it.

Brook wants to take a break after a busy season with the English team and is also being considered for the limited-overs captain of England, following Jos Buttler’s departure. Clarke believes that Brook is a great player and will likely get another chance in the IPL in the future, but it’s important for players to honor their commitments.

“Personal reasons like family matters are understandable, and I think the IPL would be respectful of that. But if it’s about not getting the money you feel you deserve, then they’ll enforce the rules,” Clarke remarked.
