Home Minister Amit Shah shared a personal story from his younger days while speaking at the opening of a police academy in Assam. He said that during the Congress government, he faced tough times when he was detained and had to eat food from jail for a week. He recalled that he was active in protests against the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi.
Amit Shah was speaking at the new Lachit Barphukan Police Academy in Dergaon, where he thanked Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for naming the academy after Lachit Barphukan, a brave warrior who fought against the Mughals. Shah believes that in five years, this police academy will be the best in all of India.
He mentioned that over the last three years, Assam’s police success rate in solving crimes has increased from 5% to 25% and will soon reach the national average. Shah highlighted that the Modi government is set to invest ₹3 lakh crore in infrastructure projects for Assam, on top of another ₹5 lakh crore announced in a recent business summit.
Amit Shah arrived in Dergaon for a three-day visit to the northeastern states of Assam and Mizoram and is looking forward to positive growth in the state.
