Police Crackdown on Pro-Pakistan Social Media Posts in Assam and Tripura

In Assam and Tripura, police are taking strong action against people who post pro-Pakistan messages on social media after a recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Assam’s Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, announced that anyone supporting Pakistan in any way will face serious consequences, including being charged under the National Security Act (NSA).

So far, police in Assam have arrested around 22 people for sharing such posts—nine on Friday, two on Saturday, and 11 earlier. In Tripura, four people, including two retired teachers, were arrested in just one day for making controversial comments about the Pahalgam attack. One person was also arrested in Meghalaya.

A member of the All-India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) party, Aminul Islam, was arrested for his remarks on the terror attack and will remain in police custody for four days.

The Tripura police explained that the arrested individuals were sharing misleading messages online. They warned that sharing or creating such posts is illegal and that strict legal actions will be taken against anyone involved. Police urged citizens to be careful and report any suspicious activity.

Tripura’s Chief Minister, Manik Saha, instructed police in all districts to keep an eye out for Pakistani nationals and report any findings immediately.

These measures come after a review of the state’s safety and preparedness, especially in light of recent events in Jammu and Kashmir.
