Gangster Aman Sao was shot and killed during a police encounter while his gang tried to rescue him in Jharkhand’s Palamu district. This happened on a Tuesday morning, just after the state’s police chief, Anurag Gupta, said many crimes in Jharkhand are planned and carried out by gangs from inside jails.
Sao, who was connected to over 150 cases, was being transported from Raipur jail in Chhattisgarh to Ranchi for an NIA investigation when his gang attacked the police vehicle near Chainpur. They used a bomb and started shooting. In the chaos, Sao grabbed a police officer’s rifle and fired back at the police, who shot him in self-defense. Unfortunately, another police officer got hurt in the process.
After the shootout, other gang members ran away. The injured officer was taken to the hospital for treatment. The police stopped cars from moving in the area, and an ambulance was called to collect Sao’s body for a postmortem examination.
The police chief confirmed that Sao, also called Aman Sahu, was being brought in connection with a serious case. Senior police officials arrived on the scene, and the event was discussed in the Jharkhand Assembly, with a member calling for a report on the incident. The police chief had recently mentioned that some gangsters, including Sao, are still operating from inside prisons, and efforts are ongoing to stop these activities.
They are investigating and hope to arrest more members of Sao’s gang soon, as they have already filed an FIR against 30 of them.
