The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) released new rules for airlines on Saturday. This comes after Pakistan decided to close its airspace to Indian flights. The change is affecting many international and regional flights, forcing them to take longer routes.
Because of these airspace changes, flights will take more time than usual. Airlines might also have to make technical stops for fuel or other reasons. To help keep passengers informed and cared for, the DGCA has asked airlines to do a few important things:
1. Inform Passengers: Airlines must tell all passengers about any new flight routes caused by the airspace restrictions. This includes explaining that flights might take longer and mentioning any potential stops.
2. Prepare for Stops: If there’s a technical stop, passengers are usually required to stay on the plane. Airlines should let everyone know about this at check-in, at boarding gates, and through SMS or email alerts if they can.
3. Update Food and Hydration Supplies: Airlines need to adjust their food and drink supplies according to the longer flight times and any planned stops. This means providing enough meals, drinks, and snacks throughout the journey, including special meals when needed.
4. Medical Readiness: Airlines should make sure they have enough medical kits and first-aid supplies for longer flights. They must also check that any alternate airports have emergency medical support ready.
5. Customer Service Support: Airlines need to prepare their staff for possible delays and what to do if passengers miss connecting flights. They should have a plan in place to assist passengers if delays happen.
These steps are meant to ensure air travel is smoother and more comfortable for everyone during this challenging time.
