On Friday, Iran’s foreign minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, offered to help India and Pakistan understand each other better. This comes after tensions rose due to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that killed 26 people. Araghchi shared on social media that Iran is ready to assist both countries in finding common ground during this tough time.
He mentioned that India and Pakistan are like “brotherly neighbors” to Iran, sharing deep cultural ties. To emphasize this point, he quoted a famous Persian poet, Saadi, who said, “All humans are part of the same body. If one part hurts, the others feel pain too.”
There hasn’t been an immediate response from Indian officials regarding Araghchi’s comments. He also spoke with Pakistan’s foreign minister, Ishaq Dar, who thanked him for trying to ease tensions.
Meanwhile, the Saudi foreign minister, Faisal bin Farhan, reached out to both Indian and Pakistani foreign ministers about the Pahalgam attack. Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar confirmed he had a call with Faisal, discussing the attack and its implications.
Dar updated Faisal on Pakistan’s recent reactions to India’s claims and emphasized that Pakistan would respond firmly if provoked. Both ministers agreed to keep in touch regarding the ongoing regional situation.
This isn’t the first time Saudi Arabia has intervened between India and Pakistan. After the 2019 Pulwama attack, which resulted in the deaths of 40 Indian soldiers, Saudi Arabia, along with the UAE, played a role in mediating peace between the two nations.
