Last year, Indian cinemas started re-releasing old films. This includes famous classics by Raj Kapoor and some that didn’t do well when they first came out. Among these, “Tumbbad” and “Laila Majnu” stood out. “Tumbbad” earned ₹32 crores during its second run, while “Laila Majnu” collected ₹12 crores. Both films even outperformed Shah Rukh Khan’s hits “Devdas” and “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham.”

But a small movie without big stars has surprised everyone! “Sanam Teri Kasam” has set a new box office record after re-releasing nine years post its original release. The film, which stars Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, was a flop in 2016, making only ₹8 crores. However, its re-release in 2025 shocked many by earning an impressive ₹4.25 crores on opening day, making it the highest-grossing Indian re-release ever!

So far, “Sanam Teri Kasam” has earned ₹33 crores, beating “Tumbbad” and bringing its total earnings to ₹41.35 crores in India and ₹53 crores worldwide. About ₹45 crores of this total came from its re-release, which is incredible!

With this achievement, “Sanam Teri Kasam” takes the crown from “Tumbbad,” which previously held the record with its ₹32 crores. The film is still doing well, making over ₹1 crore in its third week.

“Sanam Teri Kasam” was directed by Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru. When Mawra Hocane talked about the film’s success, she joked that her marriage brought her luck because the release dates are the same as the original ones.
