The Indian Army’s top leader, General Upendra Dwivedi, went to Marseille, France, on February 24. He learned about France’s Scorpion program, which is improving the French Army’s fighting tools and techniques, making them stronger for the future.
During his four-day visit, he talked about how both countries can work better together in defense and sharing new ideas. In Carpiagne, he will watch soldiers practice their firing skills to improve their readiness.
On February 27, General Dwivedi will pay respect to Indian soldiers who fought in World War I at the Neuve Chapelle memorial. He will also speak at the École de Guerre, the French military college, and discuss new ways of fighting and India’s view on safety.
This visit follows Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to France earlier in February, where both nations agreed to work together on safe new technologies like artificial intelligence.
Additionally, India is planning to buy 26 new Rafale-M fighter jets for its aircraft carrier INS Vikrant and three more Scorpene-class submarines to improve naval strength. The Rafale-M jets will cost around ₹50,000 crore. These fighters will help India, especially against challenges posed by China in the Indian Ocean.
The submarines will be built in Mumbai and will add to India’s power in the ocean region, ensuring safety and security. So far, six submarines have already been built through a previous deal with France.
Both countries are also looking for more ways to work together to build and design military equipment, strengthening their defense relationships even more.
