Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, is leading in a special program to help people who work in informal jobs, with over 1.20 crore people signed up. The state government shared this news on Friday. The top five places in Uttar Pradesh with the most new sign-ups for the Atal Pension Yojana are Prayagraj, Lucknow, Bareilly, Fatehpur, and Kanpur Nagar.
This program, launched by the Government of India in 2015, gives a monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 to citizens aged 18 to 40 who work in informal jobs. People can start getting this pension when they turn 60. Contributions are taken automatically from their bank accounts at flexible times. If a person passes away, the pension goes to their spouse, and the savings go to a designated person after both pass away.
Thanks to a strong campaign to promote the scheme, many people in both cities and villages joined in. Uttar Pradesh exceeded its goal for sign-ups from the last financial year, reaching 21.49 lakh new members, higher than the target of 15.83 lakh. This is the best performance in India during a special campaign by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority. For this achievement, the Uttar Pradesh State-Level Bankers’ Committee received an award for outstanding leadership in implementing the program. Sixty organizations, including eight major banks, are helping run this initiative in the state.
The State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Indian Bank are the top three banks that helped the most people sign up for the scheme.
