A birthday party in Hanoi, Vietnam, turned scary when a woman got burned because a balloon exploded while she was taking pictures with her cake. This happened on February 14, and Giang Pham shared her story online, making it go viral.
At the party, which was at a restaurant filled with many balloons, Giang wanted to make things more fun. She bought extra balloons to hold while she took photos. As the party ended, she stood on stage with a birthday cake in one hand and the balloons in the other. Suddenly, the balloons touched the lit candles on the cake, causing them to explode. Fire flared up and burned her face.
Feeling shocked and in pain, Giang quickly dropped the cake and balloons, covered her face, and ran to the bathroom. She splashed water on her face to cool the burns before being taken to the hospital. “It happened six days ago, but only now have I been calm enough to think about it,” Giang shared. The experience was very scary for her, and she cried for days, worried about how the burns would affect her life and work.
Doctors found that she had first- and second-degree burns but said she wouldn’t have permanent scars. However, it could take months for her skin color to return to normal. Giang discovered that the balloons she bought were filled with hydrogen gas, which is very flammable. She wished the seller had warned her, especially since many people wanted balloons for Valentine’s Day.
Reflecting on the incident, Giang noted, “When the balloon exploded, fire shot up and burned all the other balloons at the restaurant. Thankfully, the other balloons were filled with regular air or it could have caused a big fire
