Shedeur Sanders Not Drafted: What Happens Next After Shocking Snub?

Deion Sanders, the coach of the Colorado football team, made it very clear that he wanted his top players, Travis Hunter and his son Shedeur Sanders, to be picked first and second in the NFL Draft. Travis Hunter did get picked second overall by the Jacksonville Jaguars, but Shedeur didn’t get picked at all during the first round.

Shedeur, the Colorado quarterback, watched as team after team chose other players, even those that needed a new quarterback. The New York Giants, who were thought to be interested in him, didn’t pick Shedeur at their Number 3 spot or later at Number 25. Instead, they surprised everyone by choosing Jaxson Dart from Ole Miss. Other teams like the Saints, Raiders, and Jets also passed on Shedeur.

This situation reminds some people of the 2005 NFL Draft when top player Aaron Rodgers slid down the picks and was finally chosen 24th by the Green Bay Packers. The big difference is that Shedeur didn’t get picked in the first round at all.

Now, Shedeur looks forward to Day 2 of the draft with hope. “We didn’t expect this, but with God, anything is possible,” he said in a YouTube video. “I believe there’s a reason for this. It’s just more motivation for me. We know we’re moving on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow is a new day, and we’ll be happy no matter what.”

Some experts suggest that Shedeur’s decision not to throw at the NFL Combine and his pro day may have hurt his chances. Plus, he took 94 sacks in the last two seasons, the most in college football. However, his college stats are impressive: 14,347 passing yards, 134 touchdowns, only 27 interceptions, a 70.1% completion rate, and 17 rushing scores in 50 games.

Deion Sanders defended his son, saying, “After throwing over 4,000 yards, all of a sudden people say his arm is weak? I don’t understand that. He protects the ball. He had the highest completion percentage in college football this last year. He is very reliable.”

Although Shedeur didn’t go in Round 1, he’s still one of the most talked-about players in the draft and hopes to get picked soon.
