14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi made an impressive start in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 while playing for the Rajasthan Royals. He whacked a six off the very first ball he faced, shocking everyone. In his second game against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he scored 16 runs, hitting two more sixes.
However, the former India player, Virender Sehwag, has some advice for the young star. He wants Vaibhav to dream big and play in the IPL for many years, not just for a game or two. Sehwag compared him to Virat Kohli, who began his IPL journey at 19 and has played all 18 seasons since then.
In both of his first two matches, Suryavanshi came out swinging, but he didn’t take a moment to settle in. Sehwag cautioned him that fame can be short-lived. “If you think you are a star after just a few matches, you might not last long,” he commented.
Sehwag believes that Vaibhav should aim to stay in the IPL for 20 years, just like Kohli. If the young player is happy just being in the spotlight for one great match, he may not return next season.
A little bit about Vaibhav: He comes from Bihar and started in the IPL auction at a base price of INR 30 lakh but was bought for INR 1.10 crore, making him the youngest player picked. After waiting through eight matches, he finally got to play when Sanju Samson was injured. In his debut match, he scored 34 runs off 20 balls, hitting a huge six off his first ball from Shardul Thakur.
Unfortunately for the Rajasthan Royals, they lost to RCB, making it their fifth loss in a row. They are currently in eighth place on the points table.
