New Delhi: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan paid tribute to K Kasturirangan, the former chief of ISRO, who passed away today at his home in Bengaluru. Pradhan called Kasturirangan an “intellectual titan” and said losing him is a deep personal loss.
“I am very sad to hear about the passing of Padma Vibhushan Dr. K Kasturirangan. His death is a huge loss not just for the scientific and academic world, but for me personally,” Pradhan mentioned in a post on X (formerly Twitter). He described Kasturirangan as more than just a mentor; he was a guiding light full of wisdom and kindness.
Kasturirangan significantly contributed to India’s science and education. He was instrumental in creating the National Education Policy 2020, which aims to improve the education system for future generations.
Pradhan shared his heartfelt condolences with Kasturirangan’s family, friends, and all the students and scholars who were inspired by him. He emphasized that India is grateful for Kasturirangan’s brilliant ideas, strong leadership, and selfless service to the country.
Kasturirangan was not only a great scientist but also served in many important roles, including Chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University and Chairperson of the Karnataka Knowledge Commission. He also worked as a member of the Rajya Sabha and the Planning Commission. From 2004 to 2009, he led the National Institute of Advanced Studies in Bengaluru. He played a key role in the Indian Space program for over nine years as the chairman of ISRO, leading many successful missions.
Kasturirangan’s legacy will inspire young minds and future scientists for years to come.
