Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembers the 40 CRPF soldiers who died in the Pulwama terror attack on February 14, 2019. He shared his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “We honor the brave heroes we lost in Pulwama. Future generations will always remember their sacrifice and commitment to our country.”
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also paid his respects, calling the attack a cowardly act. He said, “On behalf of our grateful nation, I honor the soldiers who were martyred in this attack.” He emphasized that terrorism is the biggest enemy of everyone and that the world is united against it. He mentioned that the government is committed to fighting terrorism with a strict “zero tolerance” policy.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also offered his tribute, stating that the courage of these soldiers inspires everyone to unite against terrorism. He wrote, “Salute to the brave soldiers lost in Pulwama! Their sacrifice encourages us to stand together against terror. Jai Hind!”
On that tragic day in 2019, a suicide bomber drove a vehicle filled with explosives into a CRPF convoy, killing 40 soldiers. Following the attack, the Indian Air Force conducted airstrikes on February 26, targeting terrorist camps in Pakistan’s Balakot. These strikes were successful in destroying terrorist facilities.
The airstrike took place early in the morning, and when Pakistan tried to retaliate the next day, India’s alert air force was ready. In the ensuing encounter, Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman’s MiG-21 fighter jet was shot down, and he was captured by Pakistan. Later, India also managed to shoot down a Pakistani jet.
