What was supposed to be a fun ride in an auto-rickshaw for Dr. Arokiaswamy Velumani, the founder of Thyrocare and a billionaire, turned out to be a wake-up call about the class divide in society.

Dr. Velumani shared on his X handle (formerly Twitter) about his recent trip to Mumbai. He wanted to travel in an auto-rickshaw for fun, but what happened next surprised him. While chatting with the driver, he learned that the driver’s son is studying at IIT Hyderabad and that the driver works 12 to 14 hours a day to pay for his son’s education.

However, when they arrived at a fancy hotel in Bandra Kurla Complex, the security guards wouldn’t let the auto-rickshaw inside. They rudely told the driver, “rules of the hotel.” This forced Dr. Velumani to get out and walk into the hotel. He expressed his confusion about such strange rules.
