In 2024, the Delhi Traffic Police made more than Rs 46 crore by issuing over 74 lakh (7.4 million) tickets and notices for traffic rules violations. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai shared this information in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

He explained that the police issued 23.09 lakh (2.3 million) tickets directly by officers and 51.41 lakh (5.1 million) notices through online cameras that catch people breaking traffic rules.

This year, the total money collected reached Rs 46.29 crore. If we look back at the past five years, 2020 was the highest year for fines, where they collected Rs 213 crore, issuing around 10.99 lakh (1.1 million) tickets and 85.94 lakh (8.6 million) notices. It was followed by Rs 98.45 crore in 2021 with 13.23 lakh (1.3 million) tickets, and Rs 74.46 crore in 2022 with 14.69 lakh (1.5 million) tickets. In 2023, they collected Rs 40.31 crore with 17.26 lakh (1.7 million) tickets.

The police say the increase in traffic rule violations is due to more vehicles in the city, lack of awareness, and stricter law enforcement. To help with this, Delhi Police is working on educating people about safe driving through school programs, public awareness campaigns, and training for drivers and police officers to prevent accidents.
