On Tuesday, the Supreme Court asked the Indian government to provide an update on the commercial courts in different states and Union Territories. A group of judges, led by Justice KV Vishwanathan, asked the registrar generals (RGs) of each High Court (HC) to report on how many commercial courts have been set up in their areas within the next four weeks.
The RGs also need to share details about several important points. These include how many commercial cases are waiting in their courts, how many cases have been solved in the last three years, and what kind of facilities are available for commercial courts and their appeal courts.
The Supreme Court noted that this information is very important and only the RGs can provide it. The RGs must send their details to the Secretary General (SG) of the Supreme Court, who will then share the information with the Solicitor General of India.
The Union government will gather all this information and present it to the Supreme Court by April 15. Justice Vishwanathan expressed hope that the necessary details will be provided on time because this topic is very important. The Supreme Court has scheduled a follow-up hearing for April 22.
