Bengaluru [India] – Virat Kohli finally broke his home game half-century drought with a dazzling 70 runs off just 42 balls against the Rajasthan Royals. His impressive performance helped the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) score a strong total of 205 runs for 5 wickets at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday in the Indian Premier League 2025. This was Kohli’s fifth fifty in nine matches this season, bringing his total runs to 392, putting him in second place for the Orange Cap, awarded to the league’s top scorer.
Kohli opened the innings with Phil Salt, helping RCB start quickly. They added 59 runs during the powerplay and reached their fifty-run partnership in only 4.4 overs. Salt scored 26 runs off 23 balls before he got out, leaving RCB at 61 runs for 1 wicket. Devdutt Padikkal came to bat next, and together with Kohli, they formed a strong partnership of 95 runs. Kohli was eventually dismissed by Jofra Archer during the 15th over after a commanding innings.
Padikkal, who also played well, scored 50 runs off 27 balls with four boundaries and three sixes but got out soon after Kohli. Following the quick dismissals of Kohli, Padikkal, and RCB captain Rajat Patidar, who only made 1 run, RCB found themselves at 163 runs for 4 wickets with a few overs left.
However, Tim David and Jitesh Sharma added important runs in the final overs. David scored 23 runs off 15 balls before getting run out on the last ball, while Sharma finished the innings unbeaten on 20 runs from just 10 balls, hitting four boundaries to help RCB reach over 200 runs. For Rajasthan, Sandeep Sharma was the top bowler with 2 wickets for 45 runs, while Jofra Archer and Wanindu Hasaranga took one wicket each. Rajasthan now needs to chase down 206 runs for their third win of the season.
