New Delhi: Ashoka University has just revealed its new school called the Havells School of Management and Leadership, the seventh school on its Sonipat campus. This new school is supported by Anil Rai Gupta, who is the managing director of Havells India. He donated ₹250 crore to help it get started. The school is designed to help young people become leaders who can solve important economic and social problems.

The university said this school will work alongside their current programs in subjects like humanities, natural sciences, and computer science. The management programs will also blend in with Ashoka’s style of open education.

The aim is to create programs that match the high quality of schools like Oxford University’s Saïd Business School, Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and the Sloan School of Management at MIT.

Somak Raychaudhury, the vice-chancellor, explained that even since the university opened in 2014, they planned to have a school focused on management and leadership. They already have a popular Center for Entrepreneurship where many students take courses related to management. So, they decided to create the new school that includes the Center and will add more programs in the future.

The management school will offer unique undergraduate courses that mix liberal arts with management. While they won’t fully launch undergraduate programs in Applied Liberal Arts and Management this year (since they need more faculty), they plan to offer it as a minor course for now.

Pramath Raj Sinha, one of the founders, said that the university is currently hiring teachers for this new school. He noted that more students have shown interest in management and entrepreneurship courses, making this a great idea.

Anil Rai Gupta said that this partnership gives students the chance to learn both liberal arts and management, preparing them to contribute to the nation’s growth and global industries. The new school will also offer advanced programs in partnership with leading business schools.
