Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Thursday that helipads in areas controlled by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) could help attract tourists to remote places. He plans to work with ITBP to improve connections and complete all necessary steps.
During a meeting with ITBP’s Northern Frontier Headquarters Commander, Sanjay Gunjyal, Sukhu discussed how to better manage disasters and support the local economy. He suggested that if ITBP buys food directly from villagers, it could create jobs and help farmers.
The Chief Minister also asked ITBP to include local residents in building projects and told state officials to speed up the process of setting up communication towers in border areas. They talked about ITBP’s role in keeping the border districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti safe, and how to promote tourism in these regions.
Gunjyal updated Sukhu about the Vibrant Village Program, which includes plans for three new roads in Sangla Valley and Kaurik and 15 more roads in remote border areas. The Deputy Chief Minister, Mukesh Agnihotri, joined the meeting virtually and shared his ideas as well
