The Indian Navy has successfully tested a Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MR-SAM) system aboard the INS Surat warship in the Arabian Sea. The Navy shared this exciting update on X, a social media platform. They said, “#IndianNavy’s new destroyer, #INSSurat, hit a moving target in the water, showing how strong our defence system is becoming.”
This test comes just before the Pakistan Navy plans to test its surface-to-surface missiles in the same area. The MR-SAM is great at defending against missiles launched from the ground and from the air.
This achievement highlights the Indian Navy’s growing skills in building and operating its own warships and shows India’s commitment to making its own defense equipment. The INS Surat is the last of four ships in the P15B Guided Missile Destroyer Project. It’s one of the largest and most advanced destroyers globally, with 75% of it made in India. It has the latest weapons and advanced technology that connects it to other naval systems.
Additionally, two Indian Navy ships, INS Chennai and INS Kesari, recently returned from Dar es Salaam after successfully completing the first AIKEYME exercise. They left on April 19, as announced by the Indian Navy. The Navy’s post on X included details of the departure ceremony, which was attended by high-ranking officials. They also held a closing ceremony for the exercise, featuring speeches and cultural performances.
