Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine wants its friends around the world to invest in its valuable mineral resources. This statement came after former US President Donald Trump suggested that the US should get “rare earths” from Ukraine in return for military help.
Zelensky emphasized on social media that Ukraine won’t just give its resources away, even to close partners. He mentioned that partnerships are important. “Put your money in and let’s work together to make money,” he said.
He also pointed out that Ukraine has a lot of valuable minerals like titanium and uranium, which he said are the largest in Europe. Zelensky stressed that these resources are vital for Ukraine’s safety and should not fall into Russian hands.
Trump’s idea to trade military aid for rare earths was criticized by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who said that helping Ukraine should not come with strings attached.
Trump also mentioned that he is likely to meet Zelensky next week, as both Ukraine and the US plan talks, but the details aren’t confirmed yet. The ongoing war with Russia is now almost three years old, and Trump has suggested that both sides should negotiate to end the conflict.
