The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has shocked everyone by winning elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, and now Delhi! On Saturday, the BJP got 36 seats out of 70 in the Delhi Assembly elections, marking their return to power after more than 26 years.
After last winning in 1993, the BJP has finally made a big comeback in 2025. They won over many voters, especially women, the middle class, and those concerned about local issues like water and garbage. The party also called out the Chief Minister’s expensive home renovations, which helped them gain support.
The BJP got over 40% of the votes, a big change from earlier years. In the past, they struggled to compete against other parties. Now, they are back in a strong position.
As soon as the results were clear, BJP supporters celebrated, dancing and waving flags outside their headquarters, creating a lively atmosphere.
Local problems like pollution and poor drainage were central to the campaign. The BJP used the “Sheesh Mahal” controversy—where the Chief Minister spent a lot of money on improvements— to resonate with the voters.
Although AAP (Aam Aadmi Party) has done well in Delhi in the past, it may face challenges now, especially in other states like Punjab where they won heavily in 2022. AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal has relied on blaming the central government for ongoing urban issues like water shortages and pollution. But after two terms in office, voters are frustrated with lasting problems.
In Punjab, AAP recently won a huge victory, but now their power may weaken as they struggle in Delhi. Congress, which didn’t win any seats in Delhi, still managed to take votes away from AAP, hurting their chances. Kejriwal lost his seat to a BJP candidate, suggesting that if Congress and AAP had worked together, they might have won.
Overall, as the BJP celebrates a historic victory, the political scene in Delhi is changing, which could lead to tough times ahead for AAP, especially in Punjab.
