In a recent election for the Milkipur assembly seat, more than 65% of voters had already cast their votes by 5 PM on Wednesday. This is a significant increase compared to the 2022 elections, according to the Election Commission of India. There are around 3.70 lakh registered voters in this area. Polling started at 7 AM and ended at 5 PM, but those who were in line when voting closed were still allowed to vote.

The election is a fierce battle between the Samajwadi Party (SP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), both fighting for control of this important district of Ayodhya.

Voter Turnout and Allegations:

By 5 PM, the voter turnout reached 57.70%, and the final number may rise as many were still waiting in line. However, there are some accusations. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav claimed that there was “fake voting” happening, saying that officials were trying to help the ruling party. He shared an audio clip he claims proves his point, accusing them of creating fear among voters and calling it a “murder of democracy.”

The Ayodhya police, however, denied these claims, stating that everything is running smoothly and peacefully at all polling stations. They explained that the photo Yadav shared was just police checking an election worker’s ID, not voters.

Peaceful Voting Process:

Senior police officers, along with magistrates and paramilitary forces, have been present to ensure safety and order. The voting for Milkipur is important, with 1.93 lakh men, over 1.78 lakh women, and eight voters identifying as a third gender registered to participate. Notably, there are also 4,811 first-time voters in the constituency.
