On Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) shared its plans to make parking easier for everyone in Mumbai. They want to tackle the daily traffic problems people face. According to the BMC’s budget report, they are creating a Parking App. This app will let you book a parking spot in advance and pay online, making it super convenient for citizens.
In their budget for the year 2025-26, the BMC is focused on making Mumbai a better place to live with efforts such as more green spaces, better health facilities, smoother traffic, and improved ways to get around the city. They also want to make it easier for people to walk around. This means improving footpaths and keeping them safe and clean, which helps everyone walk more and reduces the number of cars on the road.
Additionally, on October 11, 2024, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra started a project to make four busy traffic junctions easier to navigate. The BMC is also working on a system to control traffic more effectively at busy signals in Greater Mumbai.
The BMC’s budget has been updated, showing that their income will be higher than expected. They previously estimated their income for 2024-25 to be Rs 35,749.03 crore, but it’s been increased to Rs 40,693.85 crore, which is about 13.83% more! So far, they’ve collected Rs 28,308.37 crore until December 31, 2024. For 2025-26, they expect to earn Rs 43,159.40 crore, which is a 20.73% jump from last year’s estimates.
A big part of the budget, Rs 43,162.23 crore, is set aside for building new things. This makes up 58% of their total budget for 2025-26.
