different standards have been applied to our neighbours in east and west says eam jaishankar

On Tuesday, India’s External Affairs Minister, S. Jaishankar, spoke out about how unfairly different countries are treated when it comes to democracy and military rule. He pointed out that different rules seem to apply to India’s neighbors to the east and west.

While giving a speech at the IIC-Bruegel Annual Seminar in Delhi, Jaishankar said that important decisions shouldn’t just be based on what a few powerful countries want. He expressed concern that while there are big conflicts in places like the Middle East and Ukraine, the principles guiding these conflicts aren’t being applied fairly to everyone.

Jaishankar mentioned that India still has unresolved issues, such as ongoing territory disputes and how terrorism is sometimes ignored when it suits others. He said, “We in India have yet to see aggression on our territory vacated after so many decades.”

He also emphasized how important it is for India to have a strong partnership with Europe. Jaishankar believes that a strong India-EU relationship could make the world more stable, especially as Europe becomes more active on the global stage. He noted that this stronger relationship is already being seen through closer cooperation in areas like defense and technology.

Notably, India and the EU are two of the largest economies in the world, creating many opportunities for trade and investments. The EU is India’s biggest trading partner, and India ranks as the EU’s ninth largest partner for trading goods
