Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced on Monday that tariffs on goods from Mexico to the United States are paused for a month. This decision came after a conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump. During their talk, Sheinbaum agreed to send more law enforcement to the U.S. border to help stop the flow of drugs, especially fentanyl.

She wrote about this agreement in a post on X. Trump had recently ordered a 25% tariff on all Mexican goods, but Mexico planned to respond with its own tariffs on certain products. As part of the deal, Sheinbaum said Mexico will send 10,000 National Guard troops to the U.S. border to help control drug trafficking. In return, the United States promised to help stop high-powered weapons from entering Mexico.

After this announcement, the value of the Mexican peso, which had been falling, began to rise against the dollar.
