A stunning medieval castle that looks like it came from a storybook is for sale in the UK for the first time in nearly 700 years! Ripley Castle, near Harrogate in North Yorkshire, is listed for £21 million (about ₹225 crore). If it sells at this price, it could become one of the most expensive homes sold outside London.

A Beautiful Estate

The castle has a huge 445-acre estate with a lovely lake, a pub, a helipad, and lots of parking. It can be bought as nine separate pieces or as one big property! The estate also features a cricket field, a hotel, a tea room, a gift shop, and a wedding venue that many people love. This makes it a highly sought-after property!

A Family’s Long History

Sir Thomas Ingilby, the current owner, has cared for the castle with his wife, Lady Ingilby, for many years. The Ingilby family has owned Ripley Castle since around 1308 when Sir Thomas Ingilby (1290–1352) married Edeline Thwenge, who brought the castle as part of her marriage deal. Their son, also named Thomas, was a hero who saved King Edward III’s life from a wild boar and was named a knight for his bravery.

Why They’re Selling the Castle

After taking care of Ripley Castle for over 50 years, Sir Thomas and Lady Ingilby are ready to say goodbye. “Some days we feel cheerful about it, and some days we feel sad for what we will miss,” said Sir Thomas. “I’ve devoted my life to this place and have other things I want to do.” The couple, who have four grandchildren, wishes to travel once the castle is sold.

Special Memories

Reflecting on their time at the castle, Lady Ingilby said: “We’ve had many moving events here. Walking around the gardens by the lake, we often see deer drinking as the flowers smell sweet—they make it feel magical
