On Saturday, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented her eighth budget, and many of her cabinet colleagues congratulated her. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also came over to greet her. In a video from the Lok Sabha (the lower house of Parliament), Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia was the first to shake her hand, followed by other ministers like Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Manohar Lal Khattar. They greeted her with folded hands to show respect.
As Sitharaman acknowledged their greetings, PM Modi stood up and walked toward her to talk. He praised the budget, saying it is a big step in India’s growth. He mentioned, “Today marks an important point in India’s journey. This budget represents the dreams and hopes of 1.4 billion people. We are opening up many opportunities for young people, and everyday citizens will help in building a developed India.”
Modi also wanted to connect with the middle class, which has felt distant from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) due to rising prices and inflation. He explained that while typically, budgets focus on how to increase government revenue, this budget is different. This time, the focus is on how to help citizens save money and involve them in the country’s growth. He emphasized that employment-boosting sectors are a priority in the budget since creating jobs is important for elections
