A 75-year-old leader from the Shiv Sena party was hurt at his home in Palghar, Maharashtra, by a group of people. This happened after he spoke up about illegal gambling in the area. The police have filed an attempted murder case against seven people for the attack, which took place on January 29.
The leader, named Vijay Gholap, had already reported the illegal gambling to the police, which led them to take action and shut it down. On that evening, a group arrived at Gholap’s home and attacked him with iron rods, leaving him with serious injuries. He is now receiving treatment in a hospital.
The police are investigating this case under several laws related to attempted murder and rioting. In a related story, the police are also looking into the murder of another Shiv Sena leader, Ashok Dhodi. His body was found in the trunk of a car in Gujarat after he had gone missing for several days. His family believes his murder is connected to his complaints against the local liquor business
