Prayagraj’s District Magistrate, Ravindra Kumar Mandar, announced on Friday that there will be no restrictions on vehicles entering the city on January 31, February 1, and February 4. He explained that special traffic rules will only be in place on February 2 and 3 during the busy festival days.
Clarifying the situation, he mentioned, “There’s a rumor on social media saying vehicle entry is restricted until February 4. That’s not true at all. The special traffic rules were only for the busy day of Mauni Amavasya, and now, as most visitors are leaving, we are removing any roadblocks.”
On January 31, February 1, and February 4, all vehicles can enter without issues. The traffic plan will only be active on February 2 and 3 for the Vasant Panchami event. Mela officials and local authorities will share specific details about vehicle entry during that time. He assured the public that there will be no vehicle restrictions in the wider area.
Adding to the news, the Yogi Government has limited VIP movement during major festival bathing days, meaning VIPs and important guests won’t have special access on these busy dates.
Meanwhile, a three-member judicial team has started investigating the tragic stampede during the Mahakumbh on Mauni Amavasya, which sadly resulted in 30 deaths. The team will work quickly to gather information and will soon visit Prayagraj to see what happened first-hand.
On Thursday, top officials, including UP DGP Prashant Kumar and Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh, visited the area to assess the situation.
