The parents of a young girl who was tragically raped and murdered in Kolkata recently met with West Bengal’s Governor, CV Ananda Bose. They asked him to share their concerns with President Droupadi Murmu and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. On January 30, 2025, the parents visited the Raj Bhavan and expressed their sadness while asking for justice for their daughter.

Governor Bose listened to them and promised to help. He reassured them that they are not alone in their suffering, stating that humanity is with them and that justice will be served.

Meanwhile, the parents decided to withdraw their request to the Supreme Court, where they had asked for a new investigation into their daughter’s case. This original request was made in August 2024, shortly after the terrible event occurred.

When the Supreme Court reviewed the case, Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice Sanjay Kumar noticed that a similar case was already being handled by the Calcutta High Court. They advised the parents’ lawyer, Karuna Nundy, to be cautious with her arguments since the main suspect, Sanjoy Roy, had already been sentenced to life imprisonment.

After a brief discussion, Nundy decided to withdraw the request but can file a new one later. On January 20, a local court found Sanjoy Roy guilty and sentenced him to life behind bars.

Many doctors and medical workers are very upset about this case and are asking for the death penalty for Roy because of the horrible crime he committed. Concerns have also been raised about how the investigation was carried out, with calls for it to be reopened
