At least 18 bodies were found in the Potomac River after an American Airlines regional jet crashed into a military helicopter near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport. Sadly, no survivors have been found yet. The FBI is helping local police respond to the terrible accident.
The military helicopter was training at the time of the crash. A military official confirmed that it was an Army UH-60 helicopter from a nearby base, Fort Belvoir.
The American Airlines plane split in two during the collision and is now seven feet underwater. Rescue teams are working hard to recover any remaining victims.
American Airlines CEO Robert Isom has expressed great sadness about the incident. He said the company will fully cooperate with the federal investigation. Isom plans to go to Washington, D.C., soon to assist with the situation.
