Hansal Mehta and Rajkummar Rao are a famous director-actor duo known for their great films like Shahid and Aligarh. But not every film they make is a hit. Recently, Hansal mentioned that not many people watched their 2017 film Omerta, even when a fan praised it as a “career-defining” performance.
On Wednesday, a fan tweeted about Omerta, saying it showcased Rajkummar Rao’s amazing acting and shared where to watch it online. Hansal replied jokingly, saying, “So career defining that nobody watched the film.” He added that neither he nor Rajkummar have made a similar film since.
Some fans agreed, sharing that Omerta didn’t get a wide theater release. One fan shared their experience of traveling far to see the movie, only to find out the show was canceled due to no audience. Another fan appreciated Hansal’s humor about the situation, saying they loved both Omerta and Shahid.
Omerta tells the story of Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, a British terrorist responsible for the murder of journalist Daniel Pearl in 2002. Despite its serious subject and Rajkummar’s powerful performance, the film only made ₹4.49 crore at the box office.
