A cybersecurity company called Wiz, based in New York, recently discovered sensitive information from a Chinese AI startup named DeepSeek that was accidentally made available on the internet. In a blog post, Wiz explained that they found over a million lines of unsecured data, which included important software keys and chat logs, showing conversations users were having with DeepSeek’s free AI assistant.

Wiz’s Chief Technology Officer, Ami Luttwak, mentioned that as soon as they alerted DeepSeek about the problem, the company acted quickly and secured the data within an hour. However, Luttwak believes that their data might have also been found by other people since it was so easy to access.

DeepSeek’s AI assistant has become very popular in a short period, exciting people in China and causing worry in the U.S. This startup seems to be competing closely with OpenAI at a much lower cost, raising questions about the business future of U.S. companies like Nvidia and Microsoft. Recently, DeepSeek even surpassed ChatGPT in app downloads from Apple’s App Store, leading to a drop in tech stocks worldwide.
