police say at least 30 people have died in a stampede at the massive maha kumbh festival in india

Uttar Pradesh’s Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that a group of three judges will investigate the recent stampede at the Maha Kumbh Mela that tragically resulted in 30 deaths. This incident happened during one of the most important days of the festival, known as Mauni Amavasya, when millions of pilgrims gather to take a holy dip in the river.

The stampede occurred early in the morning, around 1-2 am, as large crowds pushed against barriers set up to manage the flow of people. Many people were trying to get to the water to perform religious rituals. Unfortunately, the pressure of the crowd broke the barriers, leading to chaos.

Police said about 60 other people were injured, and many have been taken to the hospital. Some witnesses mentioned that paths to the river were blocked, causing panic among the crowd. People in the back began pushing forward, causing even more people to get hurt.

Authorities explained that barricades had been placed to guide the crowds, but they collapsed under the weight of the pushing crowd. Some people ended up trapped between the barricades and police officers trying to control the situation. Medical staff reported that many injured had serious injuries like fractures, and sadly, some died from heart attacks.

In response to this tragedy, the government wants to find out what went wrong to prevent such incidents in the future.
