On India’s 76th Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi grabbed everyone’s attention by picking up litter along the Kartavya Path, showing his love for the ‘Swacch Bharat’ (Clean India) mission. Many people watched this powerful moment during the celebrations, which highlighted how important it is for everyone to keep our public places clean.
While greeting Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar, PM Modi saw some trash on the Kartavya Path and decided to clean it up himself. This act sent a strong message about cleanliness and how important it is for everyone to help in keeping our surroundings tidy. Last November, during his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ radio show, he had praised a group in Kanpur who were picking up litter while jogging.
In December, the Ministry of Defence organized a big plogging event, where many people also picked up litter at over 400 locations across the country as part of the Swachhta Pakhwada campaign.
The Republic Day event also featured President Droupadi Murmu, who raised the national flag with a special 21-gun salute. This year, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto was the chief guest, marking 75 years since the Indian Constitution was created and focusing on Jan Bhagidari (people’s involvement).
After the flag ceremony, PM Modi honored our brave soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in India Gate. To encourage public participation, around 10,000 special guests—including top achievers and beneficiaries of government programs—were invited to enjoy the parade, celebrating the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat’ (Golden India).
The parade showcased beautiful displays from 16 states and Union Territories, along with 10 ministries and departments of the Central Government, all centered on the theme ‘Swarnim Bharat: Heritage and Development.’
