Bollywood director Ram Gopal Varma has been sentenced to three months in jail after a court in Mumbai found him guilty in a cheque bounce case. The judge, Y. P. Pujari, said Varma broke the rules under the Negotiable Instruments Act. Varma explained that this case is about a cheque for Rs 2.38 lakhs from seven years ago involving a former employee. He insists that this is not about the small amount of money, but about not letting others take advantage of him. Along with jail time, the court also asked Varma to pay Rs 3,72,219 to the person who complained, within three months. But Varma was not in court for the ruling, so the judge has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for him. This means he can be arrested anytime to serve his sentence according to the law. The cheque bounce issue started back in 2018 when a company claimed Varma’s business had bounced a cheque. In April 2022, he was given bail after paying Rs 5,000. This latest news is a tough blow for Varma, who is known for making bold films and speaking his mind.
