New Delhi: A court has decided to press charges against 57 people for their roles in the 2020 Delhi riots, where they damaged property and hurt others. The judge, Pulastya Pramachala, said there was enough evidence to show that these individuals were part of a group that caused chaos on February 24, 2020, on Main Wazirabad Road and near Chand Bagh.
In a ruling dated April 15, the judge explained that witnesses confirmed these people were in a mob that aimed to cause destruction. They set fire to a truck, a motorcycle, and a storage place. The court found that these accused individuals could be charged with crimes like vandalism, setting things on fire, and hurting a man named Om Prakash.
The judge stated, “There is enough evidence to charge them under specific sections of the law.” However, the judge released the accused from charges of planning the riots together, as no one showed they had a prior agreement to riot. Instead, it seemed like a group just came together and started acting violently afterward.
