In a clever response to Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s handbag that said “Palestine,” BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj showed off a black bag with the words “National Herald Ki Loot” in bright red. She had the bag while she was in the Parliament to discuss some new bills.
This action was seen as a smart jab at the Congress party, especially because there’s been a lot of talk about the National Herald case. Swaraj’s bag highlighted the BJP’s claims about financial problems involving Congress leaders.
Speaking to ANI, Swaraj said, “For the first time, corruption has reached the media, which is an important part of democracy. The investigations by the ED show how the Congress party has been operating. They misuse public institutions to grow their wealth. This is a big issue, and the Congress party must take responsibility.”
The National Herald case is serious because top Congress leaders like Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are accused of money laundering. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) claims they laundered ₹988 crore in connection with National Herald.
On the other hand, the Congress party argues that these accusations are just revenge from the BJP. Senior Congress leader P Chidambaram spoke at a press conference and said that the attacks on Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are unfair and show that the ED is being used for political reasons against opposition leaders.
Last December, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra faced criticism from BJP leaders for carrying a bag with “Palestine” on it while in Parliament. Her bag also had a watermelon symbol, which many see as a sign of support for Palestine.
When questioned about this, Vadra responded, “No one can tell me what I should wear. This shows the patriarchal mindset that tells women what they should do.”
