trumps inauguration day what to

On Monday, Donald Trump will start his second term as President of the United States. This is a huge moment that many didn’t expect. The day will be filled with ceremonies and traditions, but Trump also plans to sign many important orders right away.

WHEN IS THE INAUGURATION?

Trump will take the oath at 12 p.m. EST, which is when he officially becomes president again. Instead of taking place outside at the U.S. Capitol, the ceremony will be held inside because of the cold weather. After the oath, Trump will give a speech, which he hopes will be positive and bring people together—very different from his last speech in 2017 where he talked about the country’s problems.

Outgoing President Joe Biden will come to the event, which is a nice way of showing respect—a courtesy Trump did not extend to him four years ago. Carrie Underwood, a famous country singer, will perform at the ceremony.

WHO IS INVITED?

Trump has invited several world leaders to his inauguration, which is not something usually done because of security issues. Argentina’s President Javier Milei plans to attend, and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni hopes to join. Chinese President Xi Jinping won’t attend but will send someone else.

Big names from the business world, like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, and Mark Zuckerberg, will also be there.

PARADE CHANGES

Due to the cold, there will be no big parade down Pennsylvania Avenue as planned. Instead, the parade will be held at the Capital One Arena, with space for up to 20,000 spectators.

GETTING TO WORK

At a rally the day before his inauguration, Trump announced he would sign many executive orders on his first day, aiming to address issues like border security. He plans to take more than 200 actions, focusing heavily on strengthening the U.S.-Mexico border. This includes:

– Classifying drug cartels as terrorist organizations.
– Declaring an emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border.
– Restoring the “Remain in Mexico” policy for asylum seekers.
– Giving immigration officers more power to arrest migrants.
– Sending more troops to the border and resuming construction of the border wall.

Trump also intends to boost oil and gas production and mentioned he would grant pardons for some people involved in the January 6 Capitol events. Additionally, he plans to allow TikTok back into the U.S.

PARTIES AND A RALLY

There will be many celebrations throughout Washington before and after the inauguration. Trump hosted a rally on Sunday, his first since the January 6 Capitol incident. On Monday, Mark Zuckerberg will co-host a party for wealthy Republican supporters, alongside other prominent figures.

WHO PAYS FOR IT?

The costs for the events are covered by Trump’s inauguration committee, led by his close friends and supporters. Most expenses, except for the swearing-in ceremony funded by taxpayers, will be taken care of by this committee. Big donors like Bezos and Zuckerberg have pledged $1 million each, helping the committee raise an impressive amount—over $170 million for this inauguration.
